Poor Brinco!
Brinco, it turns out, has an eye infection. We first noticed that he was zoning out while sitting in the litterbox and just acting generally lethargic. That in itself is no reason to worry, since he sometimes has days where he's lazier than crap. Then I saw that what I thought was a half-closed eye from laziness was actually a half-closed eye on only one side. We picked him up and didn't see anything obviously wrong (no weeping or bloody eyeball). The next morning (Friday), I made a vet appointment for that afternoon. By that time, his eye was quite runny. The vet ran some tests on him, determining that he didn't have a corneal scratch or a plugged duct, and sent him home with some antibiotic ointment. She thought it was an eye irritation rather than an upper respiratory infection.
The good news is Brinco's eye is starting to look a lot better. The white of his eye which had turned bright blood red is back to white, and his eyelids don't look as swelled. Also, he seems back to his feisty self, if his pervy pursuit of Cinnamon is any indicator.
Strangely, while we have to chase and catch Brinco twice a day to medicate him, it's Cinnamon who throws a bigger fit over it. She'll sit safely in her cage or her box, thumping furiously, while Brinco is the one who's supposedly in mortal danger. Silly lop.
In annual check-up news, Brinco is down .1 pound while Cinnamon is up .2 pounds. I'm thinking she might need a lop-osuction.
