Craisin thieves

Our bunnies, like many other bunnies, love craisins. In an obsessive sort of way. Every time I lock them in the cage (which is at night only now), I give them each a couple of craisins.

The original bag of craisins was getting down to the bottom, plus its ziploc seal was broken, so we bought a new bag. I put the old bag on top of one of the grass mats on top of the cage. For your reference, a cage picture is here.

The other morning, John went in the bunny room to give them their pellets. He came back in our room and said, "We have a problem." He was holding a chewed up craisin bag. Apparently, the rabbits had somehow managed to separate the grass mats and pull the craisin bag through the roof of the cage. I have absolutely no idea how they managed to get the craisin bag off of the grass mat in the first place. Plus, they are barely tall enough to reach the roof of the cage from the middle shelf.

Luckily, the remaining craisins in the bag stopped them from pulling the bag all the way into the cage. Plus, there were some craisins lying on the floor of the cage. So I know they didn't eat all the remaining craisins (of which there weren't that many). Still, they must have gotten a decent number of craisins, as they weren't immediately interested in eating pellets.

The moral of the story: hide the craisins. Preferably in some sort of combination safe hidden in a locked closet.
